David Bender

Technical Architect, CIDRAP

Mr. Bender is the technical architect for the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy. He has 10 years of experience designing, building, and installing electronic publishing systems, focusing primarily on Internet publishing systems. His background rests in the newspaper industry, where he coordinated the installation of a system that in 1993 made the Spokane, Washington, Spokesman-Review the largest newspaper in the country to have a fully automated production process. He also consulted with O Globo, the largest newspaper in Brazil, on the installation of their publishing system. His Web experience began with the advent of the World Wide Web, and in 1995, he designed and built an automated Web publishing system for the Spokesman-Review, managing a team of seven. More recently, he oversaw a staff of eight developers as the Web development manager for the Minneapolis StarTribune. Before taking up a technical career, he worked as an award-winning reporter, writing for several newspapers including the Kansas City Times.
