Nov 26, 2018 - The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that more than $15 million USD would be awarded to 41 projects to explore gaps in knowledge about antibiotic resistance and pilot innovative solutions, including projects to develop a rapid phenotypic susceptibility test for Neisseria gonorrhoeae, assess risk of hospital microbial transmission based on shotgun metagenome sequencing, evaluate diagnostic tests to identify Mycoplasma pneumoniae, study the impact of a rapid test to diagnose coccidioidomycosis, and more.

Oct 17, 2018 - An editorial in Nature highlights issues with the efficiency of antimicrobial susceptibility testing, along with potential interdisciplinary interventions to improve processes and test development.

Oct 15, 2018 - During a high-level visit to the Mycetoma Research Centre (MRC) in Khartoum, Sudan, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus pledged the World Health Organization's commitment to work with and support the MRC in developing better diagnostics, treatment, and prevention tools for mycetoma, an infectious disease caused by bacteria or fungi that mostly affects the feet of manual workers, laborers, and herdsmen between the ages of 15 and 30 in developing countries.
