Feb 11, 2019 - On the Scientific American blog, Madhukar Pai, MD, PhD, discusses the need for enhanced investment to improve clinical diagnostics and therapies for tuberculosis and challenge "the lack of adequate 21st-century tools to fight what's now a 21st-century epidemic."

Feb 1, 2019 - The US Food & Drug Administration released finalized guidance on coordinated development of antimicrobial drugs and antimicrobial susceptibility test devices. The draft of the guidance was issued in September 2016.

Jan 14, 2019 - The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control published an expert consensus protocol on colistin resistance detection and characterization for the European genomic surveillance of carbapenem- and colistin-resistant Enterobacteriaceae survey.

Dec 18, 2018 On the blog of the Longitude Prize, Christine Carson, PhD, discusses how a lack of consensus on the measurement of antimicrobial-resistant infections, inconsistent diagnostic coding, and variable susceptibility testing methods have led to difficulty in quantifying the scale of antimicrobial resistance.

Fighting Superbugs in India: A Short Film (The Longitude Prize and India’s Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council) - A 10-minute film follows stories from India where antibiotic resistance is growing rapidly and features interviews with doctors, patients, and researchers to highlight the urgency of the problem. Filmmakers also spoke with teams competing for the Longitude Prize to make rapid diagnostic tests that will hopefully help address the spread of superbugs in India and globally.

Mar 21, 2019 - In the Annals of Family Medicine, Paul Little, MBBS, et al evaluate the long-term effects of online training on C-reactive protein point-of-care testing and provider communication for respiratory tract infection prescribing in general practices in Belgium, England, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, and Wales, finding that training in communication skills was associated with sustainable reductions in antibiotic prescribing, while early improvement in prescribing seen with C-reactive protein training waned and was not associated with improved prescribing for lower respiratory tract infections.
