Advanced Diagnostics for Infectious Disease (Cambridge Healthtech Institute)

Tuesday, May 7, 2019 - 8:30am to Thursday, May 9, 2019 - 5:00pm

May 7-9, 2019

Lisbon, Portugal

Recent advances in technology have rapidly changed the landscape of infectious disease diagnostics. Novel technologies and techniques such as next-generation sequencing (NGS) and mass spectrometry are changing the way that researchers perform rapid diagnostics and detect antimicrobial resistance. The data collected from these technologies are also causing new challenges that must be addressed. The Fifth Annual Advanced Diagnostics for Infectious Disease will bring together leaders in the field to showcase the latest in technologies for diagnosing, monitoring, and managing infectious disease. Special consideration will be given to emerging and reemerging pathogens and new diagnostic methods.

Coverage will include, but is not limited to:

  • Molecular and rapid testing technologies
  • Mass spectrometry-based detection
  • Pathogen detection
  • Host-derived biomarkers and host response to diagnose and monitor infectious disease
  • Next-generation sequencing (NGS) as a diagnostic tool
  • Infectious disease -omics (proteomics, genomics, metabolomics, etc.)
  • Big data (artificial intelligence and machine learning) solutions applied to pathogen data
  • Benefits and disadvantages of rapid diagnostics vs traditional methods
  • Clinical and financial impact of rapid diagnostics
  • Antimicrobial resistance and antibiotic stewardship
  • The emerging role of the human microbiome and virome in infectious disease diagnostics
  • Outbreak control and surveillance
  • Diagnosing infections at the point-of-care
