Crystal Witherspoon, MPH
Ms. Witherspoon is the BioWatch deputy program director for the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP). Prior to joining CIDRAP in August 2007, she was employed as the director of epidemiology and health promotion at the East Metro Health District (EMHD), Georgia Division of Public Health. She had broad responsibilities for investigations of infectious disease surveillance, cluster investigation, case management, treatment, prophylaxis, and follow-up for the health district. Under her direct supervision were the epidemiological, public health liaison, communicable disease surveillance (ie, STD surveillance), tuberculosis control, Ryan White HIV/AIDs, refugee, and health promotion programs. In additional to these activities, Ms. Witherspoon was a senior member of the district emergency preparedness team, where she managed epidemiologic response planning and coordinated epidemiologic activities during the activation of the emergency operations center.
Prior to these positions, Ms. Witherspoon worked as a project manager for a software development department and was responsible for the enhancement and evaluation of public health surveillance software. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a major in biology and received her Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology from Eastern Virginia Medical School.
