Arizona death linked to Europe's E coli outbreak

(CIDRAP News) – The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today confirmed that the death of an Arizona resident who had traveled to Germany is linked to Europe's sprout-related Escherichia coli O104:H4 outbreak.

German E coli outbreak kills 3 more, reaches 3,800 cases

(CIDRAP News) – World Health Organization (WHO) officials today announced 105 new cases of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) and 3 new deaths in an outbreak linked to German sprouts, while the United States added a new case and is investigating whether a death in Arizona is linked to the 3,802-case outbreak.

(CIDRAP News) – The case count in Europe's unprecedented Escherichia coli outbreak climbed steeply again today as the number of potentially related cases in the United States rose to four, while a scientific debate continued on whether the outbreak strain, E coli O104:H4, is new or unique.

E coli cases in Europe exceed 1,600

(CIDRAP News) – The official toll of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) cases in Europe climbed above 1,600 today, with at least 16 deaths, as the pathogen's source remained elusive and one team of scientists called the strain new and "super-toxic."
