Minnesota officials confirm case of inhalational anthrax

(CIDRAP News) – A person hospitalized in Minnesota has contracted inhalational anthrax after traveling in western states, officials from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) announced today.

In a release, the MDH said that the agency and its partners at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are investigating the infection, which apparently stemmed from environmental exposure.

(CIDRAP News) – A spate of new reports on Germany's huge outbreak of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) is emphasizing the idea that the strain is unusually virulent, but the latest findings leave major questions about the outbreak unanswered.

E coli outbreak strain found in hazelnut sample

(CIDRAP News) – Lab tests have shown that Escherichia coli O157:H7 coli found in hazelnuts from the home of one of three Minnesotans sickened in a three-state E coli outbreak matches the outbreak strain, Minnesota officials said today.
