Study puts global 2009 pandemic H1N1 infection rate at 24%

(CIDRAP News) – In a new analysis of serologic studies from 19 countries, researchers estimate that about 24% of the population were infected with the 2009 H1N1 influenza (pH1N1) virus during the first year of the pandemic, a finding modestly higher than what US health officials estimated in the immediate aftermath of the pandemic.

(CIDRAP News) – An analysis of the H1N1 influenza pandemic in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, suggests that the government's initial policy of screening incoming travelers might have delayed the start of widespread community transmission of the virus by a few weeks.

(CIDRAP News) – The World Health Organization (WHO) reported today that 225 cases of H1N1 flu with resistance to oseltamivir (Tamiflu) have been found worldwide, and resistant viruses have spread from person to person in several clusters but have not spilled into the community.

WHO picks novel H1N1 for 2010 southern hemisphere flu vaccine

(CIDRAP News) – The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended that seasonal influenza vaccines for use in the southern hemisphere next year contain the pandemic H1N1 virus instead of a current seasonal H1N1 strain, signaling that the pandemic strain is expected to push the older H1N1 strains aside.
