Risk factors in kids who died of 2009 H1N1 included MRSA

(CIDRAP News) – A study billed as the largest to date of children who were critically ill with 2009 H1N1 influenza infections shows that neurologic conditions, immune problems, and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) coinfections increased their risk of dying.

Two reports detail 2009 H1N1 coinfections with seasonal strains

(CIDRAP News) – Two research groups today reported rare cases of pandemic 2009 H1N1 coinfections with seasonal influenza strains, including a cluster in Cambodia and two patients from Italy's Veneto region.

CDC 2009 H1N1 autopsy analysis finds other illnesses

(CIDRAP News) – In a study of respiratory tissue samples from patients who died from undiagnosed respiratory illnesses during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic, more than half were negative for the virus, shedding light on a host of other diseases that often had similar clinical signs.
