H5N1 found in wild birds in Germany

(CIDRAP News) – Six wild birds in Germany have tested positive for the lethal strain of H5N1 avian influenza in the virus's first appearance in the country since last August, according to news services.

Human H5N1 cases confirmed in Egypt, Indonesia

(CIDRAP News) – The World Health Organization (WHO) today confirmed two H5N1 avian influenza cases, one in a 4-year-old Egyptian boy and the other in a 3-year-old Indonesian girl.

The boy is from Qena governorate in southern Egypt. He got sick on Jun 20 and was admitted to the hospital the next day, where he is in stable condition, according to a WHO statement.

Indonesia reports 100th human H5N1 case

(CIDRAP News) – Indonesia's toll of people struck by H5N1 avian influenza has risen to 100, including 80 deaths, with the report that a 26-year-old man from Sumatra died of the disease on Jun 12.

Vietnam reports two H5N1 cases

(CIDRAP News) – Vietnamese health officials announced yesterday that two more patients tested positive for H5N1 avian influenza, while animal-health officials suggested that unvaccinated ducks may be to blame for Vietnam's recent rash of poultry outbreaks.

Another Egyptian H5N1 case reported

(CIDRAP News) – A 4-year-old Egyptian girl was reported to have H5N1 avian influenza today, as the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that a 10-year-old girl from the same area died of the illness 2 days ago.

Asian leaders vow to share H5N1 samples as outbreaks continue

(CIDRAP News) – Health ministers from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) nations, wrapping up a 2-day meeting in Sydney today, promised to share H5N1 avian influenza samples.
