PAHO reports a large increase in the case count, driven largely by the Dominican Republic, and another locally acquired case is reported in Florida.
About two thirds of the 38,000 new cases reported last week were in the Dominican Republic.
Cases in the Americas now total almost 475,000, with the Dominican Republic accounting for most of last week's rise.
The increase was led by the Dominican Republic, which had almost 60,000 new cases.
Suspected and confirmed cases now total 355,617, an increase of 48,780.
The outbreak total climbs to 306,837 cases, a 42,393-case increase.
Cases rose sharply last week, led by the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
With 18,519 new cases, the number of suspected or confirmed cases reaches 189,055.
Cases of the mosquito-borne disease in the region grew by more than 35,000 in 1 week.
