Leafy greens safety pact apparently failed in Canadian outbreak

(CIDRAP News) – Canadian authorities say all California lettuce shipped into Canada must be certified under the California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement (LGMA), a voluntary food safety program, which means the lettuce believed to be the source of a Canadian outbreak of Escherichia coli O157:H7 would have carried the LGMA seal.

USDA expands health alert for recalled Canadian beef

(CIDRAP News) – The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) yesterday expanded its warning to consumers about ground beef components imported from a Canadian company after the company's steaks were linked to eight Escherichia coli O157:H7 infections in Canada.

Canada approves E coli vaccine for cattle

(CIDRAP News) – Bioniche Life Sciences, based in Belleville, Ont., announced recently that it received full approval from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to market the world's first vaccine to reduce Escherichia coli O157:H7 shedding by cattle, a measure that could decrease contamination in meat and produce.

(CIDRAP News) – The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently signaled that a Canadian company is in a good position to secure the conditional license it needs to market an Escherichia coli O157:H7 vaccine for cattle that could reduce contamination levels in food.
