FDA finds lapses at 12 egg farms in initial inspections

(CIDRAP News) – The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says its first round of inspections under new egg safety rules found that 12 of the 35 large farms inspected had problems that required some kind of corrective action, most of them having to do with record-keeping.

FDA details hazards at Illinois sprout producer

(CIDRAP News) – The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says it found a variety of possible contamination sources, such as biofilms on surfaces and questionable antimicrobial treatment for seeds, at an Illinois firm whose sprouts have been implicated in a Salmonella outbreak.

FDA to add director for foodborne outbreak efforts

(CIDRAP News) – US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials announced this week that they are planning to create a new position that will put one person in charge of dealing with foodborne disease outbreaks and leading a permanent team dedicated to that purpose.

Proposed budget trims preparedness funds, boosts FDA

(CIDRAP News) – The Obama administration's proposed budget for fiscal year 2012, released today, would reduce funds for public health and hospital emergency preparedness while giving the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) a boost for food safety.
