Cantaloupe Listeria outbreak grows: 18 states, 72 ill, 13 dead

(CIDRAP News) – Seventeen more listeriosis infections, along with five more deaths, have been linked to a multistate outbreak tied to a Colorado farm's tainted cantaloupes, pushing the total to 72 illnesses and 13 deaths, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said yesterday.

As Del Monte plans to sue Oregon officials, epidemiologists react

(CIDRAP News) – Del Monte Fresh Produce, a company that recalled its cantaloupes in March after health investigators in several states linked them to a Salmonella Panama outbreak, said yesterday that is plans to sue Oregon Health Authority and one of its officials, claiming that the company's products were wrongly singled out.
