WHO confirms H5N1 deaths in Vietnam, Indonesia

(CIDRAP News) – The World Health Organization (WHO) today confirmed that two more people have died of H5N1 avian influenza, a 34-year-old man from Vietnam and a 30-year-old man from Indonesia. Both cases were reported previously.

Indonesia logs 4 H5N1 cases; death toll reaches 100

(CIDRAP News) – Indonesian authorities have reported four new human cases of H5N1 avian influenza, two of them fatal, raising the country's death toll from the virus to 100.

A 23-year-old woman from East Jakarta died of avian flu yesterday, and a 9-year-old boy from Jakarta's outskirts succumbed to the disease today, according to a Reuters report.

Vietnam reports two new H5N1 cases, one fatal

(CIDRAP News) – Health officials in Vietnam reported today that the H5N1 virus has struck two men in two of the country's northern provinces, killing a 40-year-old and sickening a 27-year-old, according to media reports.

Man's death raises Vietnam's H5N1 fatalities to 50

(CIDRAP News) – An official from Vietnam's health ministry said today that a 27-year-old man whose samples recently tested positive for the H5N1 avian influenza died of the disease last night, the country's second fatality in as many days.

(CIDRAP News) – Chinese health officials said today that a 22-year-old man died of H5N1 avian influenza in the country's first reported case this year, as health ministries in Indonesia and Vietnam reported three more H5N1 infections, two of them fatal.

FAO praises India's H5N1 response, urges vigilance

(CIDRAP News) – India scored a commendable success in stamping out its worst-ever H5N1 avian influenza outbreak, which occurred over the past 2 months in West Bengal state, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said yesterday, but it warned that outbreaks will recur unless the country stays on guard.

(CIDRAP News) – Animal health officials in India reported that H5N1 avian influenza has resurfaced in West Bengal state, as officials in Vietnam said the virus has struck poultry in another province as well as a farm near Hanoi.
