USDA to cut back BSE testing program

(CIDRAP News) – The US government's expanded testing program for bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) will be cut back soon, having shown that the nation has "no significant BSE problem," Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns said today.

USDA review panel urges tightening BSE rules

(CIDRAP News) – A panel of experts that reviewed the US response to the nation's first case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) says there are probably other cases in the United States and recommends increasing restrictions designed to keep BSE-infected materials out of human food and animal feed.

USDA to cull another 129 cattle in BSE hunt

(CIDRAP News) – The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) said today it will euthanize about 129 cattle in Washington state because of a risk that some of them were raised in Canada with the cow that was recently found to have bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).
