FDA approves flu vaccines as first doses ship

(CIDRAP News) – The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today announced that it has approved the upcoming season's influenza vaccines, as four manufacturers announced they are starting to ship their first vaccine lots.

Today's approval announcement applies to six manufacturers that are making seasonal flu vaccines for the US market. This year's vaccine includes three strains:

Australia probes seasonal flu vaccine reactions in children

(CIDRAP News) – Australia's chief medical officer asked providers to stop giving children under age 5 the seasonal flu vaccine made by CSL Ltd after receiving reports of fever and convulsions in kids in Western Australia who had recently been immunized.

House committees probe pandemic vaccine decisions

(CIDRAP News) – Federal officials, along with representatives from four vaccine companies, appeared before two US House of Representatives committees today to answer questions about why the nation hasn't stretched scarce pandemic vaccine supply with adjuvants and if a more federally directed distribution system might help vaccine get to more high-risk patients.
