GAO: US needs better program to keep animal diseases out

(CIDRAP News) – The US Senate's battle over pending food safety legislation erupted in a House of Representatives committee hearing on Salmonella in eggs today, where two illness victims gave a face to the outbreak and farm owners faced public questions for the first time, with one of them blaming feed ingredients for the contamination.

Federal inspectors say outside pressures hurt food safety

(CIDRAP News) – Many federal food safety workers say their work has been hampered by corporate interests, political pressure, and influence from other groups, according to a survey released today by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS).
