Fouchier anticipates resuming H5N1 studies soon

(CIDRAP News) – The lead researcher of one of the controversial H5N1 avian influenza transmission studies in ferrets said today that he hopes scientists can resume work on the studies in about 2 weeks, after key groups have discussed the issues.

Experts seek greater push to stop drug-resistant TB

(CIDRAP News) – Tuberculosis (TB) experts who met in Geneva this week said the global TB community needs to step up the fight against drug resistance and increase appropriate care and treatment "to avoid a scenario where TB becomes incurable," the World Health Organization (WHO) said today.

US flu activity nudges up slightly

(CIDRAP News) – US flu indicators ticked upward this week, with outpatient visits for influenza-like illness (ILI) reaching baseline levels for the first time this season, according to an update today from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
