Sprouts suspected in multistate Salmonella outbreak

(CIDRAP News) – Federal officials announced today they are collaborating on an investigation into a multistate Salmonella serotype I 4,[5],12:i:-  outbreak, possibly linked to sprouts served on sandwiches at Jimmy Johns restaurants, that have sickened 89 people in 15 states and the District of Columbia.

(CIDRAP News) – The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today released newer, more precise estimates of the foodborne illness burden, suggesting 1 in 6 Americans get sick each year, a rate lower than previously thought.

Surge in Salmonella Enteritidis prompts egg recall

(CIDRAP News) – An outbreak of Salmonella infections has triggered a national recall of 13 shell egg brands and an extensive traceback investigation focused on an Iowa company that reportedly produced the eggs, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said today.

Tropical fruit cited in US typhoid fever outbreak

(CIDRAP News) – Federal and state health agencies say frozen mamey fruit pulp is the probable cause of seven confirmed and two suspected cases of typhoid fever (Salmonella Typhi infections) in California and Nevada.
