(CIDRAP News) – A man from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) hospitalized in Germany with a novel coronavirus (NCoV) infection died today, according to reports from German health officials and the World Health Organization (WHO).

UK officials detail novel coronavirus cluster findings

(CIDRAP News) – Investigation findings on a family cluster of novel coronavirus (NCoV) infections in Britain indicate some SARS-like qualities but a wider disease spectrum and other differences, according to a report today in Eurosurveillance.

Though earlier clusters were reported among hospital staff in Jordan and a family in Saudi Arabia, Britain's three-patient cluster is the first to be fully documented and published.

(CIDRAP News) – A 60-year-old British man is under intensive care in a UK hospital for both a novel coronavirus (CoV) infection and influenza, marking the 10th known illness caused by the novel virus, European and British authorities reported today.

Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia report first H5N1 outbreaks

(CIDRAP News) – Agriculture officials in Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia have confirmed outbreaks of H5N1 avian influenza in birds, a first for each country.

The outbreak in Bangladesh struck chickens at a state-run poultry farm in Savar, near the capital, Dhaka, the Associated Press (AP) reported today. Government sources said farm workers had recently culled all 30,000 chickens at the farm after many of them died mysteriously, the AP said.

Addition of Egyptian cases raises avian flu tally to 204

(CIDRAP News) – The World Health Organization (WHO) today recognized eight human cases of H5N1 avian influenza previously reported in Egypt, pushing the global case count to 204, with 113 deaths.

The Egyptian government has been reporting a total of 12 human cases, but until today the WHO had listed only 4 cases in Egypt.
