US flu activity almost back to baseline

(CIDRAP News) – Influenza activity in the United States continued to tumble last week, with one key marker—clinic visits for flulike illness—nearly approaching the national baseline, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said today.

Euro studies show flu vaccine working best against type B

(CIDRAP News) – New European studies reported today in Eurosurveillance suggest that this year's influenza vaccine is providing good protection against influenza B viruses but only moderate protection against type A—findings more or less consistent with earlier results in the United States.

Flu continues late-season Northern Hemisphere push

(CIDRAP News) – Flu activity in many Northern Hemisphere countries continued its late-season rise last week, with areas such as the United States, Canada, and Europe reporting steady increases.

Though flu activity overall is low, notable increases are occurring in North America, western Europe, and northern China, the World Health Organization (WHO) said today.
