French tests suggest E coli matches German outbreak strain

(CIDRAP News) – A French probe into a cluster of Escherichia coli O104:H4 infections in Bordeaux revealed today that the strain isolated from patients is genetically related to the one that has sickened thousands of people in Germany, according to a Eurosurveillance report.

Four US cases may be tied to European E coli outbreak

(CIDRAP News) – The case count in Europe's unprecedented Escherichia coli outbreak climbed steeply again today as the number of potentially related cases in the United States rose to four, while a scientific debate continued on whether the outbreak strain, E coli O104:H4, is new or unique.

Cause of E coli outbreak still elusive as cases mount

(CIDRAP News) – The cause of an Escherichia coli O157:H7 outbreak linked to Taco Bell restaurants remained elusive today as the number of cases increased to 67 in 5 states, according to federal officials.
