Baxter says cell-based H5N1 vaccine shows potential in trial

(CIDRAP News) – Low doses of a cell-based avian flu vaccine triggered a good immune response to the H5N1 avian influenza virus, according to preliminary results of a clinical trial by Baxter International of Deerfield, Ill., maker of the vaccine.

Second Turkish patient dies of avian flu

(CIDRAP News) – The sister of a Turkish teenage boy who died of avian influenza Jan 1 has succumbed to the same disease, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced today.

Turkish officials reported the two cases yesterday, marking the first human cases of avian flu outside East Asia.
