WHO: Resistant flu clusters warrant greater vigilance, treatment tweaks

(CIDRAP News) – The World Health Organization (WHO) said today that oseltamivir (Tamiflu)-resistant pandemic H1N1 cases in hospital settings suggest that treatment doses may need to be increased in immunocompromised patients who have flu symptoms.

The agency made this statement after a teleconference with experts about two recent clusters of resistant cases. It also concluded that the events don't signal a public health threat.

Roche boosts Tamiflu supply, addresses resistance

(CIDRAP News) – Officials from Roche today said the company is producing Tamiflu (oseltamivir) at near-capacity levels and is collaborating on dozens of research studies, focusing on groups such as pregnant women who are at higher risk of complications from pandemic H1N1 flu.

PAHO rejects report of resistant H1N1 cases on US-Mexico border

(CIDRAP News) – A Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) official today rejected a media report that quoted her as saying that antiviral-resistant cases of novel H1N1 influenza had been found along the US-Mexican border.
