WHO sees pockets of pandemic flu and more H3N2

(CIDRAP News) – Pandemic flu activity remained low in most parts of the world, though some areas such as Caribbean countries continued to see active transmission, with increased activity reported in a few areas, including Colombia and parts of India, the World Health Organization (WHO) said today.

CDC advisors tweak seasonal flu vaccine advice for young kids

(CIDRAP News) – Aiming to close some of the gaps in protection against the pandemic H1N1 virus expected to circulate this fall, a federal vaccine advisory group today recommended that children aged 6 months to 9 years who haven't received at least one dose of monovalent pandemic vaccine receive two doses of the upcoming season's trivalent vaccine.

CDC looks at tying public health alerts to medical records

(CIDRAP News) – An informatics expert from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today spoke with clinicians about possible public health connections to electronic medical records, which she said could have been useful during the H1N1 pandemic and might ease information flow during future public health events.

The discussion follows recent federal investments to promote greater use of health information technology.
