Pastries blamed for 100 staph cases in 2 states

(CIDRAP News) – An outbreak of about 100 illness cases in Illinois and Wisconsin has been attributed to pastries from an Illinois bakery that were tainted with Staphylococcus aureus, state and federal officials revealed recently.

Sprouts suspected in multistate Salmonella outbreak

(CIDRAP News) – Federal officials announced today they are collaborating on an investigation into a multistate Salmonella serotype I 4,[5],12:i:-  outbreak, possibly linked to sprouts served on sandwiches at Jimmy Johns restaurants, that have sickened 89 people in 15 states and the District of Columbia.

CDC revises decade-old foodborne illness estimates

(CIDRAP News) – The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today released newer, more precise estimates of the foodborne illness burden, suggesting 1 in 6 Americans get sick each year, a rate lower than previously thought.
