(CIDRAP News) – A federal auditor has found that the US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA's) management of food inspections by state officials on the FDA's behalf has a number of weaknesses, including a failure in several states to ensure that inspections are completed and problems corrected.

GAO calls for better federal food safety coordination

(CIDRAP News) – Although the Food Safety Working Group (FSWG) appointed by President Barack Obama in 2009 has been a good first step to boost food safety collaboration among government agencies, it lacks results-oriented goals and performance benchmarks, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) said in a new report.
