NEWS SCAN: Vietnam avian flu funds, biolab makes Superfund list, immunization stimulus, China's healthcare plan

Vietnam yesterday received a $7.3 million pledge from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to support two avian influenza projects, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported today. The funds will be used to gather information for a transitional H5N1 vaccination strategy and to help Vietnam prepare for outbreaks.

H5N1 virus in Michigan swans was mild form

(CIDRAP News) – Final tests confirmed that two mute swans in Michigan had a mild strain of H5N1 avian influenza virus, not the lethal Asian variety, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced yesterday.
