(CIDRAP News) – Federal health officials are inviting the public to weigh in on whether research on H5N1 avian influenza viruses, including strains modified in the lab to make them more transmissible, is risky enough to require new safety regulations and precautions.

(CIDRAP News) – The recent outbreak of botulism poisoning traced to bamboo shoots served at a religious festival in Thailand sickened 163 people, according to a report by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Bamboo shoots blamed for botulism cases in Thailand

(CIDRAP News) – An outbreak of apparent botulism associated with home-preserved bamboo shoots has sickened more than 150 people following a festival in northern Thailand, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
