Large study finds no need for ICU MRSA screening

(CIDRAP News) – Disinfecting all intensive care unit (ICU) patients was found to be more effective and easier to implement than specifically screening ICU patients for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) before disinfection in a study of more than 70,000 patients published today.

Researchers find first US evidence of vaccine-resistant pertussis

(CIDRAP News) – Researchers in other countries have found evidence that circulating strains of Bordetella pertussis have adapted to the acellular vaccine, and researchers today reported similar findings for the first time in US kids, based on genetic analysis of isolates from hospitalized children.

IDSA calls for broad attack on antimicrobial resistance

(CIDRAP News) – Warning that medical procedures such as surgery and chemotherapy will become impossible if current trends continue, the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) today called for a many-pronged campaign to counter the ever-growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.
