US officials defend Salmonella outbreak response

(CIDRAP News) – Federal officials reported today that ground turkey products belonging to two patients in the current multistate Salmonella outbreak were traced to a Cargill Inc. facility on Jul 20, 2 weeks before investigators presented all their evidence to the company, prompting yesterday's Cargill recall of 36 million pounds of ground turkey.

Petition asks USDA to classify drug-resistant Salmonella as meat adulterant

(CIDRAP News) – A food safety watchdog group yesterday filed a regulatory petition asking the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to declare four antibiotic-resistant Salmonella strains as adulterants in ground meat and poultry.

Drug-resistant Salmonella outbreak linked to ground beef

(CIDRAP News) – The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) yesterday issued a public health alert about ground beef products that may be contaminated with a multidrug-resistant form of Salmonella that has sickened 38 people in four western states.
