Study maps zoonotic disease burden, hot spots

(CIDRAP News) – A review and mapping study to gauge the burden of zoonotic diseases found that Ethiopia, Nigeria, Tanzania, and India are four top hot spots and that a surging demand for livestock products will likely fuel the spread of several diseases.

FDA issued $18.5 million in food protection grants in past year

(CIDRAP News) – The US Food and Drug Administration announced today that it gave state and local governments 84 grants totaling $18.5 million in the past year to help them prepare for and respond to foodborne disease outbreaks and threats to the food supply.
