Report says insecticide resistance could threaten progress against malaria

(CIDRAP News) – Global health groups today unveiled a strategy to battle emerging insecticide resistance in malaria-carrying mosquitoes, a problem they say could be minimized or reversed now before resistance becomes established in mosquito populations.

Global health officials foresee threats to malaria progress

(CIDRAP News) – To mark World Malaria Day, global health groups today warned that funding cuts could erode progress in fighting the disease, a point that was underscored by a new study that highlighted wavering support and a dramatic increase in disease activity in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In addition, the World Health Organization (WHO) and other agencies announced new strategies to fight the disease.

Mapping studies show scope of P vivax malaria burden

(CIDRAP News) – Though global rates of the most deadly form of malaria are declining in Africa, the parasite's less deadly but more difficult-to-treat cousin, Plasmodium vivax, has a firm foothold in many parts of South Asia and Latin America, according to new mapping studies.
