Global Tamiflu-resistant H1N1 cases reach 225

(CIDRAP News) – The World Health Organization (WHO) reported today that 225 cases of H1N1 flu with resistance to oseltamivir (Tamiflu) have been found worldwide, and resistant viruses have spread from person to person in several clusters but have not spilled into the community.

Roche boosts Tamiflu supply, addresses resistance

Health officials say antiviral resistance likely in some pandemic flu cases

(CIDRAP News) – A spokesman for Roche, the maker of oseltamivir (Tamiflu), said yesterday that Denmark's report of resistance to the drug in a patient with novel H1N1 (swine) influenza, the first reported finding of its kind, wasn't surprising and that the news underscores the importance of monitoring for any viral changes.

Cost, resistance aired in HHS webcast on antivirals

(CIDRAP News) – Cost issues and the risk of viral resistance drew considerable attention today in an online presentation by federal health officials on their revised guidance regarding use of antiviral drugs in an influenza pandemic.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released two guidance documents this week, one on antiviral use in general and one on employer stockpiling of antivirals.
