Listeriosis outbreak in Pennsylvania under investigation

(CIDRAP News) – Federal health officials are trying to identify the source of a listeriosis outbreak that has involved at least 26 cases, with four deaths, in Pennsylvania and neighboring states in recent weeks.

Foodborne bacterial disease rates dropped 23% from 1996 to 2001, CDC says

The incidence of seven commmon foodborne bacterial diseases dropped 23% between 1996 and 2001, at least in part because of new meat-processing safety rules and other federal food safety efforts in the last few years, according to the CDC.

Food safety can never be perfect, but specific goals would help, says report

(CIDRAP News) – There is no complete fix for the problem of foodborne illness, but a comprehensive, farm-to-table approach with specific targets for limiting pathogenic contamination would improve food safety, according to a new report by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT).
