US measles surge this year is biggest since 1996

(CIDRAP News) – The United States has had 118 measles cases so far this year, the most for this date since 1996, and close to 90% of them are linked to cases in other countries, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported today.

(CIDRAP News) – The identification of three probable measles cases with links to French foreign exchange students who were ill prompted health officials in Pennsylvania counties yesterday to issue alerts about possible exposures in two counties and one of the state's school districts.

Quarantine officials press for early shipboard disease reporting

(CIDRAP News) – Alaskan quarantine officials yesterday issued a reminder to cruise and cargo ship operators to quickly report on-board illnesses and disease outbreaks, which they said are sometimes slow to come to the attention of health authorities.
