Marburg toll in Angola continues to grow

(CIDRAP News) – The Marburg hemorrhagic fever outbreak in Angola has killed more people than the largest previous outbreak of the disease and is continuing to spread, according to the latest reports.

The governor of Uige province in northern Angola, the center of the outbreak, said the province alone has had 150 cases, including 142 deaths, according to an Agence France-Presse (AFP) report today.

Marburg death toll in Angola reported at 155

(CIDRAP News) – The outbreak of Marburg hemorrhagic fever in Angola has continued to grow and has killed 155 of 175 people infected, according to the latest reports.

Angolan health minister Sebastiao Veloso gave those numbers in an Agence France Presse (AFP) report yesterday. In a statement yesterday, the World Health Organization (WHO) said the Angolan health ministry had reported 163 cases with 150 deaths.

Ebola-like outbreak reported in Congo Republic

(CIDRAP News) – Nine people have died in the Republic of Congo from a hemorrhagic disease that authorities are describing as "Ebola-like," and at least another 52 people who had contact with the victims are being monitored, according to news reports today.

Ebola cases in Congo rise to 17

(CIDRAP News) – Eight more cases of Ebola hemorrhagic fever have been confirmed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), bringing the total to 17, according to news services.

The cases were confirmed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization (WHO) spokeswoman Fadela Chaib said in Geneva, according to an Associated Press (AP) report today. She said 6 of the 17 Ebola patients have died.

New cases wane in Uganda's Ebola outbreak

(CIDRAP News) – A health official in Uganda said yesterday that the Ebola outbreak in the western part of the country is receding, though it's too soon to say the disease has been contained, according to media reports.
