CDC to take second look at safety needle for smallpox shots

(CIDRAP News) – Although federal health officials have not endorsed the use of an available safety needle in the current smallpox vaccination program, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plans to take a careful look at the needle to determine if it should be used in the future, a CDC official says.

Study questions value of respirator-fit testing

(CIDRAP News) – A Canadian study raises questions about the value of formal "fit testing" for the respirators worn by healthcare workers to protect them from airborne pathogens, suggesting that it does little good for workers who don't routinely wear the devices.
