Airline trips by resistant-TB patient trigger alert

(CIDRAP News) – In a rare action, federal health authorities have ordered an Atlanta man who has extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR TB) into isolation and are looking for people who recently flew with him so they can be tested for the disease.

Air trip by drug-resistant TB patient prompts passenger testing

(CIDRAP News) – Federal health officials recently issued an alert about a woman with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB) who flew from India to the United States in mid December, and efforts are under way to locate and test several of her fellow passengers for the disease.

Drug resistance, lack of vaccine top list of TB challenges

(CIDRAP News) – The tuberculosis toll in Europe continued a slow overall decline in 2010, but the treatment success rate for the disease is slipping as drug-resistant strains of TB grow more common, according to a report released today by the European Union (EU) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Experts seek greater push to stop drug-resistant TB

(CIDRAP News) – Tuberculosis (TB) experts who met in Geneva this week said the global TB community needs to step up the fight against drug resistance and increase appropriate care and treatment "to avoid a scenario where TB becomes incurable," the World Health Organization (WHO) said today.
