Oklahoma Push Partner Program

The Oklahoma Department of Health developed a Push Partner Program in response to Homeland Security Presidential Directive 21, which asked all communities to be prepared to provide prophylaxis to their entire population within 48 hours. The "push" strategy involves distributing medications to partner agencies, which then dispense the medications to their employees, employees' family members, and the agencies' clients.

Community Action Partnership/Area Agency on Aging MOA

An Idaho health district worked with community-based organizations to create a thorough Memorandum of Understanding for outlining technical assistance and emergency communication to at-risk populations.

Mortuary and Medical Approaches to Mass Fatalities (National)

Two White Papers identify key issues that need to be addressed when considering fatality management during an influenza pandemic. Information focuses primarily on morgue operations during a pandemic. The papers address issues such as how to identify unattended remains; prioritize Medical Examiner/Coroner services; expedite processing of remains; recruit volunteers and vehicles to transport remains; and process death certificates.

Extended Childcare

The Extended Childcare materials provide a process through which state employees could contract childcare services if they are required to respond to an emergency. This practice may be seen as an all-hazards approach to recognizing and assessing childcare availability as a potential barrier to HCWs' willingness to work during a pandemic.

Tribal outreach in New Mexico

This practice contains materials that formed the basis of a community outreach project among 22 American Indian tribes in New Mexico. These materials include a PowerPoint presentation that was used to give tribal members talking points about pandemic influenza and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Health Department and an unspecified tribe. Tribal preparedness is a significant component of overall preparedness, especially in the American Southwest and Plains states.

Leaving no one behind: communicating with special populations

The San Mateo County Health Department developed partnerships with community-based organizations as a way to assess, serve, and communicate with at-risk populations during an emergency.
