The guide directs congregations through the emergency planning process by outlining needs, developing a communications plan, establishing a service continuity plan, suggesting ways to collaborate with the community, providing an overview of the Incident Command System, listing items in a Go-Kit, and mapping key community resources.

Strengthening the Strengtheners: A Toolkit in Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response for Congregations is a very useful collection of resources, checklists, and assessment questions from various faith-based, community, and federal organizations to help places of worship develop plans for emergencies. The materials include stockpiling lists and considerations, plus information on emotional distress and coping.

Ready in 3 for Individuals on Dialysis

Ready in 3 for Individuals on Dialysis is part of the overall Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Ready in 3 emergency preparedness project. This area of the site is specifically tailored to the needs of people with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). In the event that dialysis centers are closed or have limited staffing during an emergency, individuals can use these basic self-care tips to shelter-in-place for three to ten days.

An interactive web site from Texas addresses several ways for families to plan for disasters. The site uses an all-hazards approach that covers a broad range of scenarios. Unfortunately, specific materials on pandemic influenza are limited to brief background information. However, many of the concepts on the site are important to include in pandemic preparedness activities.

The Initiative is a preparedness workbook aimed at people with special functional needs, who may need additional assistance during a public health emergency. The Pandemic Flu and You education packet includes basic, colorfully branded information on personal and school preparedness for pandemic influenza. The documents were distributed to the public through several government programs, including Medicaid, the Division of Motor Vehicles, and Children's Health Insurance Program. The primer and brochure are good examples of basic educational resources, and the disaster plan can be coupled with the first aid kit to guide preparedness activities.

Flu Facts: Statewide Educational Campaign

Flu Facts is an educational campaign that informs the public about the importance of planning for a pandemic with a variety of tools designed to reach different populations. The tools include an educational television program, which outlines the preparedness efforts of local, state, and federal governments and urges residents to begin their own preparation for a pandemic.

Pandemic Influenza Toolkit Process

McHenry County's pandemic preparedness toolkits contain a variety of good templates and posters that could be used by any organization. Included are a Pandemic Planning Outline for Businesses that coincides with the Health and Human Services (HHS) Business Checklist; planning templates for schools and daycare facilities with key messages; parent letters; signs and symptoms logs; and posters.
