Foodborne bacterial disease rates dropped 23% from 1996 to 2001, CDC says

The incidence of seven commmon foodborne bacterial diseases dropped 23% between 1996 and 2001, at least in part because of new meat-processing safety rules and other federal food safety efforts in the last few years, according to the CDC.

2002 data show mixed results in battle against foodborne diseases

(CIDRAP News) – Preliminary data for 2002 indicate that the nation is making progress against some major foodborne diseases, including Campylobacter and Listeria, but not against others, including Salmonella, one of the most common.

E coli cases prompt beef recall by Illinois firm

(CIDRAP News) – An Illinois company has recalled about 173,500 pounds of frozen ground beef products because of a possible connection with Escherichia coli O157:H7 infections, as the number of cases in other recent foodborne illness outbreaks continued to mount.

Foodborne disease rates changed little in 2007

(CIDRAP News) – The rates of the most common foodborne illnesses in the United States have remained about the same since 2004, pointing to a need for increased efforts to ensure food safety, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported today.
