Cholera cases in Haiti double

– (CIDRAP News) Global health officials responding to a quickly spreading cholera outbreak in Haiti say cases in the past few days have doubled, to 3,015, while deaths are up by about 100, to 253.

The figures were published yesterday by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), which also reported that the disease is reaching new parts of the country.

Florida confirms first cholera case

(CIDRAP News) – Health officials in Florida, home to the nation's largest Haitian population, today announced the state's first cholera case this year, in a woman from Collier County who had recently returned from Haiti, which is in the midst of a massive cholera outbreak.

(CIDRAP News) – Protests over a possible foreign source of the cholera outbreak in Haiti have broken out in the capital, Port-au-Prince, as cases were reported for the first time from the country's South East department.

(CIDRAP News) – Demonstrations and violence surrounding a national election in Haiti have disrupted some parts of the cholera outbreak response, as international aid groups issued pleas for more medical volunteers to staff treatment centers.
