Avian Influenza in Humans: Detection, Prevention, and Control

Intended Audience

This training module is directed toward a variety of professions and backgrounds including but not limited to: physicians specializing in preventive medicine, public health, or infectious disease; nurses focusing on public health, infection control, or infectious disease; and public health officials.

Overall Goal

The goal of this training module is to familiarize users with the status of detection, prevention, and control of avian influenza in humans.


Upon successful completion of this module the learner will have:

  • A familiarity with case definitions and contact management for H5N1 avian influenza in humans
  • A basic understanding of avian influenza prevention and control measures
