News Stories Worth Noting

University of Minnesota researchers have developed a groundbreaking new diagnostic technique that will allow for faster and more accurate detection of neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and CWD.

The US Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA APHIS) is making over $12 million available for states and Tribal governments, research institutions, and universities to control and prevent CWD in wild and farmed cervids (e.g., deer, elk).

Seven national parks in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia have concluded this year’s annual operations to reduce overabundant white-tailed deer and have provided more than 48,000 meals of donated venison to neighbors. Before any donation, all parks professionally process deer and participate in a CWD sampling program.
