(CIDRAP News) Given the potential for a bitter diplomatic battle at the World Health Assembly (WHA) in May, an expert on smallpox-related policy is recommending that the United States agree to the destruction of the remaining stocks of smallpox virusor at least be prepared to destroy all but a remnant of them.
(CIDRAP News) Six new members have been appointed to the National Biodefense Science Board (NBSB), the expert committee that advises the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on preparing for bioterrroism and other public health emergencies, HHS officials announced yesterday.
The six new members replace six whose 3-year terms ended Dec 31, HHS said in a news release.

(CIDRAP News) – A federal assessment of the proposed National Bio- and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF), a biosafety-level (BSL) 4 lab to be built on the Kansas State University (KSU) campus in Manhattan, Kan., is incomplete and should be expanded and updated, the National Research Council (NRC) said in a report today.
