Emily Smith, PhD, MPH

Researcher

Dr. Smith joined CIDRAP in 2024 as a researcher for the Coronavirus Vaccines Roadmap, a strategic planning tool to facilitate the development of broadly protective vaccines against different Coronaviridae species. She earned her PhD in comparative and molecular biosciences through the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine and MPH in epidemiology through the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. 

Prior to joining CIDRAP, Dr. Smith focused on capacity building for pathogen genomics as a consultant for state and local public health laboratories. While she was a student, she worked for the Minnesota Department of Health in the Zoonotic Disease Unit, performing rabies surveillance. She has a passion for applying molecular epidemiology in a One Health context and communicating critical public health information in a timely and meaningful way.
