Emerging resistant Salmonella strain sparks concern

(CIDRAP News) – An international team of researchers reports that a strain of Salmonella that is resistant to important antibiotics has spread from Africa to Europe in recent years and has been spotted in a few samples of imported spices in the United States.

Cargill questioned in Salmonella outbreak probe

(CIDRAP News) – Federal and state investigators have not yet conclusively linked a multistate Salmonella outbreak to a ground turkey producer, but Cargill Inc. confirmed that it has been contacted by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) about its production processes, according to media reports.

Cargill announces massive ground turkey recall

(CIDRAP News) – Cargill Value Added Meats, a Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. unit based in Wichita, Kan., announced late today that it was recalling about 36 million pounds of fresh and frozen ground turkey produced at its Springdale, Ark., facility, because of possible links to a multistate Salmonella Heidelberg outbreak.

Turkey source still unclear in Salmonella outbreak

(CIDRAP News) – The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) yesterday released more details about an investigation into a Salmonella Heidelberg outbreak linked to ground turkey, which since March has led to one death and sickened 76 others in 26 states.
