(CIDRAP News) European Union (EU) health officials today warned travelers about a risk of contracting cholera in the Dominican Republic, a magnet for tourists, while the World Health Organization (WHO) said cholera outbreaks along Africa's Congo River have killed 271 people.

(CIDRAP) – Europe's drug regulatory agency today released its final review of a link between narcolepsy and the Pandemrix 2009 H1N1 vaccine, which recommends a labeling change that limits the vaccine's use in children and teens to when protection is needed and seasonal trivalent vaccine isn't available.
– German researchers who were the first to release the initial genome sequence of the Escherichia coli O104:H4 outbreak strain published their in-depth findings yesterday, which found that it differed from a 2001 strain found in Germany, but that both could have evolved from a common progenitor.

(CIDRAP News) In an effort to overcome the difficult problem of predicting which influenza B strain will circulate in any given season, MedImmune has filed for US approval of a quadrivalent (four-strain) flu vaccine containing two influenza B strains.
The idea of a quadrivalent flu vaccine has been discussed for several years, but MedImmune's application apparently is the first attempt to license such a vaccine in the United States.
